PBHSOB Premier A, perform well at Old Eds

Our Premier Mens Pretoria Old Boys team did our Club proud this past weekend at the annual Old Eds tournament. The guys played exceptional waterpolo and really showed the country that Pretoria has still got one of the best and toughest teams to contend with.Premier A - Old Eds

Pool Game Results:

Beat St Johns college 15-4
Beat Clifton Old Boys 6-4
Beat Sacs Old Boys 4-0

We were top of our pool and proceeded to quarter finals against UCT which was an exciting game that really came down to the wire. The team did their best but lost 6-5,

Our Final result was 6th place overall, out of 16 top Mens waterpolo Clubs in the country.

I am personally very proud of the guys. PHSOB Premier men made a name for themselves this past weekend and have started a reputation that we hope will continue to grow stronger and stronger!

Thanks for all the support!

Oscar off to London

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce that Oscar Pristorius has been selected to represent South Africa in the 4x400m relay at London Olympics.

After much controversy surrounding whether or not his prosthetics give him an added advantage, he has finally gotten the nod to silence all of his critics.

We recognise the effort and hard work that you have put in to get where you are and it is now time for you to reap the rewards. Best of luck in London, we will all be cheering you on from here in SA.

Elon Musk, revolutionises commercial spaceflight

One of our very own, Elon Musk, who matriculated at Boys High in 1988; has recently broken new ground in commercial Spacefilght industry.

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), the company of which Musk is the Co-founder and current CEO recently launched its "Dragon" spacecraft. The launch was a resounding success and delivered cargo to the International Space Station. This is the 1st time in history that a privately owned space craft has successfully docked the International Space Station.

This successful mission gave rise to a $1.6bn contract between SpaceX and NASA, to supply the International Space Station in the coming years.

Elon, the Association solutes your remarkable achievements and wish you many more successful missions in the future!

Affies defeat not as bad as it seems

Jake White said it best following the Battle of Brisbane in which the Springboks were given a 49-0 thrashing by Australia in 2006. "It happens when you play top teams. If they get it right and you're not on top of your game, it can get ugly quickly". There is no doubt it got ugly enough to deserve an age-restriction in Affies' recent 44-0 victory over the PBHS 1st XV. But the reality is that result does stand out as one of the few exceptions in the school's rugby history. Since 1970, there have been only 19 matches when the PBHS 1st XV has failed to put points on the board against opposition teams. That's 19 in 766 matches. Feeling better yet? And the 1st XV have proved quite adept at dishing out a bit of punishment themselves over the years, scoring a whitewash over the opposition on 45 occasions.

Yes, there was that 61-0 defeat at the hands of Monument in 1998. And let's not forget the 49-0 hiding at the hands of Affies that same year, or the 59-0 beating by Grey College in 2000 as well as the 41-0 thumping by them in 2003. But overall, the PBHS 1st XV can look back on some terrific thrashings they have dished out themselves over the years. There was that 68-0 victory over Jeppe in 1972, the 67-0 win over Saints in 1986, the 68-0 triumph over HTS Klerksdorp in 1996, the 64-0 defeat of Potchefstroom Boys High in 1997, and a 60-0 drubbing of Jeppe in 2006 and 2008.
