Christiaan Frederik Elsenbroek was born in Rotterdam (1919) and immigrated with his parents to South Africa in 1935. He matriculated at Pretoria Boys High School in 1938 and started working at the Land Surveyor General’s Office in Pretoria. With the outbreak of the Second World War he joined the South African Army in the military engineering corps. He did active service in North Africa where he was responsible for compiling maps for the allied forces. He survived both battles of Tobruk and El Alamein. Two of his classmates R.C. Bean and V.C. Bisset died in this war.
After the war he graduated as land surveyor and in 1948 started practicing in Potchefstroom. He married Jacoba Hanekom the following year. He retired as land surveyor in 1984 and lead a full and active life, enjoying various hobbies. He passed away at the age of 90 years on the 10th of August 2010 and left behind his wife, three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
