Dan Lombard passed away on Saturday, June 12th, 2021, at the Hatfield Urology Hospital due to unforeseen complications in a kidney operation. He was born on February 15th, 1990, in the Southrand Hospital in Johannesburg. A son to Kat Lombard, his mother, and Jacques Lombard, his father.
More than a beloved part of the family, Dan was a mentor to some and a dear friend to many. He was a proud graduate of the Pretoria Boys High School in 2008, a year of great tribulation for himself as a young man. On the 13th of May 2008, an unfortunate accident during rugby practice left Dan a C4-C5 spinal injury patient. This ordeal, in all its difficulty, was a time in which the resilience of his spirit became most clear to the family and friends beside him.
Dan’s triumph was in his love of rugby, which lead him to pursue Sports Journalism for the Vodacom Blue Bulls. When Dan was not sun-bathing at Loftus Versfield, he was using his boisterous humor to cultivate relationships with people from all walks of life. His work with people, both in the sporting world and within the disabled community, guided his curious mind to ask questions regarding mental fortitude and achieving in adversity.
For this, it became most apparent to him to use his own personal experiences to help those around him. Tiger Stripes Revolution became a vehicle for such a mission, one he gave his focus and all his hope.
In life, Dan was a passionate humanitarian who thought there was always more to do. Dear Dan, we will miss you
