DAVID IMPEY, “the Imp”- Class of ‘75 – in memory
It is with sadness that we remember our friend, Dave “the Imp” Impey, from the Class of ’75. Dave has lost his hard-fought battle against cancer of the larynx in August 2020.
I remember David as a chirpy, fun-loving old-boy, best characterised by this collage of memories from his classmates from Waterkloof Primary and Pretoria Boys:
mischievous glint in his eyes
always
keen for a party and had an almost insatiable appetite for beer, any time of
the
day or night
chirpy, cheeky (in a good sense!), fun loving, good to have around, and had a keen sense of humour
a man always with a smile
always jovial and cracking a joke or two
infectious smile
loved nothing more than a laugh or a prank
by the time we got to Standard 9 and 10, that inevitably involved zooming about on our 50 cc monsters (Dave had a Yamaha) plus fairly large amounts of beer, sherry and cigarettes at every opportunity
kept his same cheerful personality throughout his life
one of the good guys who never said anything bad about anyone
chirpy and very bright young chap
key member of the gang of friends that roamed Pretoria over weekends looking for parties to gate crash which was the rage at the time
Dave you a legend and I will always remember with a smile for all that we shared all those years ago
Dave was a staunch member of the Class of ’75 planning group for our 25 and 40 years-on reunions, a real stalwart. The coordination meetings could only start when he arrived, chipper and energetic, with his never-ending stories and reminiscences.
Imp, we will miss you. Thank you for the sanguinity and cheer you brought to our lives.
