DAVID NIXON – 1960 SCHOOL HOUSE
It is always with sadness that we announce the passing of an Old Boy and this announcement of David Nixon’s passing on 5 May 2024 is no different.
David and his wife Anne moved to Perth in Western Australia sometime during the 1980’s. Soon after his arrival, he became involved in a small PBHS Old Boys group that was set up by some old boys who had already been in Perth for some time.
This group met occasionally, the last time being during the School’s centenary year (2001), when Headmaster Bill Schroder and his wife Cherry visited Perth as part of his world-wide travels to participate in all the celebratory functions.
The Perth function was held at the Nedlands Golf Club and in the photograph attached, David Nixon is in the middle of the back row.
It is amazing that during the past 23 years of his life David had changed very little in appearance, unlike the rest of us in the photograph!
David was a professional Civil Engineer, apparently specialising in the mining discipline. He started out working for the now defunct Argyle Diamond Mine, famous for its supply of the very expensive pink diamonds.
His career moved through phases including project management for companies offering design and construction services for new mines, both in Australia and elsewhere in the world. David eventually entered the corporate world and at one stage was the CEO of a new Iron Ore Mining business in Western Australia. In his private life, he was known as a good golfer and an active member of his local golf club.
We unfortunately know very little about the circumstances of David’s passing, other than that he passed away, surrounded by his loving family.
He was described as “a husband, father and grandfather filled with warmth, kindness and love for his family”. His warmth and kindness were certainly evident in my professional dealings with David over the years. Rest in Peace, David!
