PBHSOB ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

Dear Old Boy

The Class of 1994 celebrated their 20 Year on Reunion earlier in November. Unsurprisingly a fantastic time was had by all – herewith a report on their festivities.

Class of ’94 reunion 7th – 12th November

The first thing you will notice is that the class of ’94 had more than just a dinner to celebrate our 20yrs on. Experience from the 10yrs on taught us that one evening is just not enough time to catch up with everyone.

The Friday kicked off with a very successful golf day hosted by Waterkloof Golf Club and expertly organized by Jason Boustead (1994- SOL). 32 old boys played and many non golfers joined in the festivities. In spite of the warm conditions everyone remained well hydrated and competitive.

Saturday evening saw the main dinner held in the Sommerville Cricket Pavilion. This was a change from the 10yr reunion and proved to be a fantastic venue. Steffani Kruger and her team of waiters did a wonderful job of setting up and serving the dinner.

We were honored to share the celebrations with Mr Sommerville on his birthday. Mr Schroder as erudite as ever entertained us with anecdotes from the Boss’s desk. He even dipped into his “classified file” after the 20yr statute of limitations had expired. Mr Reeler reassured us that the school continues to go from strength to strength. Boys High once again has a fantastic captain at the helm.

The Old Boys Club ensured that the festivities continued late into the night where many a story was retold and friendship renewed.

There was an early rise on Sunday morning for the final leg of the reunion as we journeyed North to Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. This 5 star game Lodge stay was arranged by Shem Compion (1994 – RIS) and his efficient team at C4 Images and Safaris. Mashatu was the perfect host providing expert game viewing and a fantastic mountain bike ride through the bush for those with energy to spare.

Class of ’94 finally returned to the 4 corners of the globe on Wednesday 12th. This epic reunion has reminded us of the unique spirit that we share and the unbreakable bond that runs through all who are lucky enough to have attended Pretoria Boys High School.

We thank everyone who attended and assisted in making this reunion a week to remember. Further we hope that those who were not able to make it this time round are planning for the 30th already.

‘Tis here we learn to live..!

Ian Koller (1994 – SCH)

LETTER TO OLD BOYS
PBHS BUILDING PROJECT AND FUNDRAISING

Dear Old Boys

We would like to thank the almost 2000 donors who have contributed so generously towards the fund raising drive overseen by Bill Schroder these past three years.

While the success of the campaign can be followed more closely on the fund raising website (www.pretorian.co.za) we felt it important to send all the Old Boys and donors news of the
project, its successes thus far and our challenges for the future.

OLD BOY NEWS

German Old Boy Visits RSA

Bernd Stunkel, an Old Boy, 1979, moved to Germany after matriculating at Boys High. He loves South Africa and our School hence his attendance at two Class Reunions over the years.

On a recent visit to South Africa, with his wife Sarah and two children, he was able to visit classmate Mike Proctor-Sims in Port Elizabeth.

Mike thought it was a good idea to co-incide Bernd’s visit with one of the PE Old Boys drinks and snacks functions at a local guest house.

With this in mind, some 10 Old Boys and their partners met on 15 August 2014 at the Arkenstone Guesthouse. The hightlight of the evening was when classmate Derek Green and his wife April, joined the festivities. Derek and April specially drove from East London to meet up with Bernd, Mike and their families.

A good time was had by all.
