Dear Old Boy

Those of us privileged to attend the 95th Annual PBHSOB Association Old Boys Dinner, will remember a historical occasion when the Abernethy Hall was used for the second time even, to serve as a venue.

Old Boys from the 1940’s to the present saw the Abernethy Hall tastefully decorated with white tablecloths and chair covers, black table napkins and centre piece foliage to match the School colours. The main table was placed parallel to the stage front and seated the Guest Speaker, Mr. Pravin Gordhan who delivered an esoteric address on the future of finances for the Country providing with the excellent food fare, food for thought too!

Reverend Alan O’Brien said Grace, Max Madalane proposed a toast to South Africa encouraging the audience and the Nation to look forward to many more positive changes in our history forward. The Head Boy Marthinus Erasmus delivered a delightful entertaining speach enjoyed by everybody and well deserving sustained applause.

Mr Tony Reeler, the Headmaster gave a resume of the School’s activities, mentioning the Schools primary objectives including the plans for sporting coaches. A balance between academic and sporting activities would be a priority.

Trevor Quirk was his customary erudite quirky Master of Ceremonies and contributed much to making the evening a proud occasion, and most attending would agree the price of the dinner was well worth the expense.

A model of the School Hall alterations and a visual architects screening was presented. Copies of Tos du Toits’ book, “Some People” and paintings of the school were for sale.

The dinner ended with the rousing singing of “Forty Years On” lead by Dr Neil van der Watt, who also oversaw and conducted the sundry excellent musical performances during the course of an excellent evening.
