Dear Old Boy
Did you know that the Pretoria Boys High School Old Boys Association gives a number of grants every year to boys at Pretoria Boys High School?
The PBHSOB Association grants are allocated to boys who are currently attending Pretoria Boys High School who may be unable to continue their schooling at this magnificent school because of their families or caretakers current financial
situation.
Instead of these school boys possibly having to leave the school due to financial difficulties, the PBHSOB Association assists them financially to complete their schooling at Pretoria Boys High School.
Over the years the PBHSOB Association has helped numerous school boys at Pretoria Boys High School and often receive letters of thanks and appreciation from these boys.

OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2015
Traditionally the Annual Old Boys Weekend takes place during the first weekend in June every year.
Old Boys who are travelling from around the country to attend and are in need of accommodation will be pleased to know that reduced rates for Old Boys over this weekend have been arranged at a number of establishments in Pretoria and Tshwane.

Founders’ Day Assembly
Old Boys are welcome to attend the Founders’ Day Assembly at Pretoria Boys High School wearing a jacket and tie. Tea will be served in the Media Centre at 08h30 and Old Boys may walk around the school thereafter. Assembly will start at 09h35 at the front of the school and will finish at 10h30.
Annual Old Boys’ Golf Day
This year the Annual Old Boys’ Golf Day will be held at the Pretoria Country Club and will be an open event. We look forward to welcoming ladies and gentlemen who are not Old Boys of Pretoria Boys High School to enjoy the day with us.
The Pretoria Country Club has recently hosted the Tshwane Open and has a history dating back to 1910.The golf course underwent a major re-design in 2004/2005 by the Gary Player Group and is currently rated in the Top 50 courses in the country.
There are wonderful sponsorship opportunities available for those who are interested and Pretoria Boys High School Old Boys Association Life Members will receive a Limited Edition Golf Towel.

Sport at Pretoria Boys High School
On Saturday 6 June 2015 Old Boys are invited to support the Pretoria Boys High School hockey and rugby teams as they compete against St Johns at Pretoria Boys High School during the day.
Annual Old Boys’ Dinner
The much anticipated 96th Annual Old Boys Dinner will take place on the evening of Saturday 6 June 2015 at the Central Dining Hall at Pretoria Boys High School. This event is open only for Old Boys of Pretoria Boys High School.

APPEAL FOR INFORMATION
Pretoria Boys High School has asked the PBHSOB Association and fellow Old Boys to assist them with the gathering of various information for the school’s records:
The Media Centre is working on a collection of books published by Old Boys. They would like to appeal to all Old Boys who have written a book (or more than one) to please provide them with the details. Ideally they would greatly appreciate a
signed copy for a special section in the library for this purpose.
All Old Boys who have doctorates are please requested to send a digital and / or hard copy of their thesis to the school in order for them to build up a digital archive.

PRETORIA BOYS HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Congratulations to Pretoria Boys High School pupil Stephen Kennealy who has been selected to represent South Africa in the Junior Male Category of the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships. The Triathlon will take place in Sardinia, Italy during September this year.
On Friday 13 March Pretoria Boys High School hosted the Blue Bulls U15 Ighawe trials and ten boys were selected for the rugby side which will play in a provincial tournament later this year.
This team played a curtain raiser for the Blue Bulls Super Rugby side at Loftus this past Saturday against a PBHS Invitational side.

DESMOND ABERNETHY HALL UPDATE
Building Report: Week ending 13 March 2015
Casting of the slab which extends the gallery and which connects to the upper levels of the two wings has been completed – this is an important milestone. Installation of the steel framework for supporting the roof structure has begun on the wing in the Memorial Quad. Backfilling of areas below the two retaining walls in the quads is almost complete. Revised drainage pipes have been completed in the Memorial Quad.
The excavation of the area below the stage – which will be used for the storeroom – is almost complete. Much of the building focus is currently on the areas adjacent to the stage (including the toilets and change room) and on the new music rehearsal room above the stage.
Building Report: Week ending 20 March 2015
Aspects of the building project recently completed or underway: The drainage pipes are being laid in the Hendry Quad and the casting of the seats below the new Wall of Remembrance has been completed. Construction of the interior and exterior walls around the music rehearsal room is underway and the erection of the steel framework which forms part of the roof structure over the East Wing is being completed. Access doorways from the two wings and gallery into the staircases adjacent to the stage, have been created in the existing walls.
