Dear Old Boy
Having been part of the winning U19 World Cup Cricket team in March this year, old boys Corbin Bosch (2012 SUN) and Aiden Markram (2012 ARM) returned back from England on 28th July with hands on yet another World Cup Trophy.
Bosch and Markram were part of the triumphant Assupol Tuks Cricket Team who represented South Africa in the Redbull T20 Campus Cricket World Finals played in London during the week of 21- 26 July.
Teams from 8 countries contested in the competition which was played in a round robin format. The teams were Leeds Bradford MCC (UK), University of New South Wales (Australia), University of Liberal Arts (Bangladesh), Rizvi College (India),
Karachi University (Pakistan), Assupol Tukkies (South Africa), International College of Business and Technology (Sri Lanka) and Jamaica (West Indies).
The pool games were played at 2 venues, namely Wormsley and Aston Rowton Cricket grounds with the semi-finals and final being played at The Oval.
Road to Final:
Pool Game 1: SA vs Bangladesh (won by 114 runs)
Pool Game 2: SA vs England (won by 7 wkts)
Bosch, Man of the Match with bowling figures of 4-0-27-4
Pool Game 3: SA vs West Indies (won by 56 runs) – Markram, Man of the Match. Batting 76 runs off 56 balls and bowling figures of 3-0-12-3
Semi Finals: SA vs India (won by 5 wkts)
Final: SA vs West Indies (won by 40 runs)
Bosch bowling figures of 4-0-29-3
Markram bowling figures of 2-0-12-1 and batting 33 runs off 26 balls
Bosch and Markram also excelled in the tournament statistics.
Bosch finished the tournament as the leading wicket taker in 5 matches. Bosch bowled 17.3 overs in total, had 106 runs conceded and took 12 wickets.
Markram ended 2nd behind fellow team mate and Titans player Theunis de Bruyn who was the leading run scorer (209 runs). Markram in 5 games scored 174 runs at an average of 34.8. Markram also had bowling figures for the 5 matches bowling 12 overs,
had 50 runs conceded and took 4 wickets.

PRETORIA BOYS HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Building operations relating to the school hall and the two adjacent quads are due to start on Monday 1st September 2014. The complete refurbishment of this portion of the school means that it will be a building site until the middle of next year and that the corner of the quad devoted to memorial plaques will be extensively modified in the course of expanding the Abernethy Hall.

OLD BOY NEWS
Hallo from Israel where I have been living since 1961.
I left Boys High in 1945 but Boys High has NEVER left me! The morals and values I learned there have stood me in good stead to this day. I am deeply grateful for the broad education I was privileged to receive, ranging from an appreciation and
love for art, a love for sport and of course an ability to study [and pass exams!]
As a boarder, Rissik House and the school were my second home for 5 happy years.
It was also a rare privilege to be in a school with so many superb teachers. In my Matric year I had: ART-Walter Battiss, who taught me to appreciate and love art; AFRIKAANS-Gerhard Beukes-I acted in some of his short plays; SCIENCE-Lewis Wolff [Boobles of Gas!]; HISTORY-Kevin Wynne. He was also my rugby coach [3rd team] Sometimes the Monday morning History lesson would start with: Little Geffennnnn-off-side again on Saturday! MATHS-Will Hofmeyer. I was always a bit nervous with him because I sometimes also trained with the 1st and 2nd teams. ENGLISH-Noel Pollock who amongst other good things taught me to use a dictionary-to this day! I was also privileged to have Mr. Pollock as my House Master at Rissik House. He had a very positive influence on my life!
I studied pharmacy after matriculating and continued playing rugby-not so well but enjoying! I spent one year in Pretoria after qualifying and played cricket for Old Boys in the 4th league. I took ill and after a year in hospitals, etc I arrived in Springs, fit and well again. I became a rugby ref. in what was then Eastern Transvaal. I subsequently married and in 1961 moved to Israel.
I helped a bit in school athletics and then started a badminton club. I was also co-founder of the Israel Badminton Association and was chairman for 10 years and continued serving on the Committee until 2002.
During that time I managed National Senior and Junior teams in International tournaments in Europe. On two occasions we were in the same tournament with South Africa. It was lekker to gesels with the players!
I was employed in the Pharmaceutical Industry and have been a pensioner for just over 20 years. As I am active with my club as chairman, helping with coaching and doing “odd jobs” of which there are many – never a dull moment!
In my home I have many reminders of Boys High, group photos, a framed badge and rugby scroll but also vivid memories of one of the greatest experiences of my life-Boys High!

IN MEMORIAM
Gerald Andrew Cresswell (1946 SOL)
Born in Johannesburg on 4th September 1928, Gerald Cresswell passed away peacefully on 15th July 2014. We say goodbye to a true gentleman who has spent almost 86 years of his life in the Lowveld. More importantly, we say goodbye to a person who has given – not taken – from our community.
