PRETORIA BOYS HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION

Dear Parents, Old Boys and Boys High community

For many years now we have played against Maritzburg College in some wonderful sporting fixtures, the biggest being the annual winter hockey and rugby derby. This tradition will continue this weekend when we host our friends from Pietermaritzburg.

The first team rugby kit of both schools is almost identical from a distance and even on the field itself. There have been many times when players have been confused and have passed the ball to an opponent in the mistaken belief that they were a teammate. This was particularly evident in a number of wet and muddy encounters where even the shorts, which are different, became indistinguishable.

We felt it was important that our boys were not disadvantaged by the kit they were wearing when competing so looked at getting a special jersey made that would only be used for the College game. The boys were consulted and many designs submitted. The design we have chosen retains the candy stripe on the shoulders and down the sides thus keeping with the “Candies” tradition but allowing our boys to be able to tell each other apart. This jersey will be used for the first time this Saturday.

We hope you like this new jersey. We are not replacing the candy jersey at all and this change strip will be used only for the games against Maritzburg College and by the Sevens team. We look forward to your continued support for our boys and hope you enjoy the fixture.
