Nic was born in 1940 and matriculated from Pretoria Boys High.
He spent most of his personal and professional life in Pretoria and also worked briefly in Bethal and Johannesburg.
Nic was a pillar of the Pretoria community and was very active in professional affairs in Pretoria and Nationally. His dedication to the profession was recognised by him being appointed as President of both the Northern Region and Gauteng Province of SAICA respectively. Nic also served on the Council of SAICA as well as various Committees of SAICA. He also served on the Boards of the Schools of Accountancy at both of his Alma Maters, UP and UNISA andwas appointed Professor Extraordinarusat UNISA in the Commerce Faculty.
He was also actively involved in his local Church. Family and friendships meant everything to him.
He was very keen on the sea and the bush and liked nothing more than spending time in the KrugerPark and at the Natal South Coast. He was also a keen golfer and rugby follower.
Nic, over the years also looked after many of the firm’s top clients and served as a mentor to many young partners. Hiscalm,dignified and professional manner in tough situations and integrity will always be remembered by everyone who worked with him.
Soon after the C&L merger with Pricewaterhouse in 1998, Nic, with retirement age approaching, decided to retire at end 1999.
However, he remained active in the business community in Pretoria and served until very recently as a Trustee of various retirement funds.
Sadly, his wife of 53 years, Edith, suffered from Alzheimer’s for the past couple of years and passed awayon 16 July 2020.
Nic’s health also suffered over the past year and he very sadly passed away in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday morning, 18 October. Fortunately, he was not alone as he was visiting his daughterCorrieta and familyin Nelspruit. He often said that the Lowveld was as close as one could get to Paradise.
Nic will be sorely missed by his daughters, Corrieta and Rene and son, John-John, their respective spouses, eight grandchildren and many close friends. He will always be remembered for the upstanding gentleman he was!
