Louis Rapmund passed away on the 16th of January 2022 after a two-year battle with Pleural Mesothelioma which is cancer of the lining around the lung caused by inhaling asbestos.
He was a proud Old Boy and attended the school from 1960 to 1964. He scraped into the A class from Standard 7 to Matric and was a keen sportsman with his most notable achievement being winning the 100 yard dash in his Matric year. He played A team rugby from under 13 to under 15 and then the third team which was unbeaten (including to Affies) and was coached by Eddie Dorey. He played soccer for Arcadia Shepherds. He made many great friends at the school who he remained close with his entire adult life.
His greatest contribution to the School was via the Old Boys Club and the Old Boys Association where he served as a director for many years. He joined the club in 1967 playing hockey and in 1982 he joined the running club as one of the founder members. He was the longest standing continuous member of the running club. He achieved his double green number (911) for completing 20 Comrades Marathons in 2004 – 8 of these were completed in under 9 hours. He completed roughly 150 marathons or ultra marathons.
However, what defined him were his character traits. He was a genuine good guy who was loved by all. He was happy, kind and generous beyond measure. He always put the needs of others before his own expecting nothing in return. He left his mark on everyone who met him and who he was as a person will be talked about and remembered for years to come. A legacy to be proud of!
