We all enjoy hearing about our Old Boys activities, careers and successes – whether they live in our beautiful country or abroad, are young or young at heart! Recently, a simple enquiry from an Old Boy’s family regarding the availability of Old Boys’ regalia led to us hearing about Adam Vorster’s interesting studies and career since matriculating from the School on the Hill.

After graduating high school, Adam pursued his passion for agriculture and languages by moving to Costa Rica in October 2021 to study Spanish in preparation for beginning his BSc in Agricultural Sciences at EARTH University in January 2022.
The degree was taught entirely in Spanish and offered a highly practical, hands-on approach to sustainable agriculture.
As part of his studies, Adam completed a four-month professional internship in the wine industry in Napa Valley, California. That experience proved to be pivotal, firmly cementing his passion for viticulture and winemaking and shaping the direction of his career.
Adam graduated with an academic average of 92%, placing him among the top achievers of his graduating class, and he became one of the first South Africans to graduate from EARTH University.
To further deepen his expertise in the wine sector, Adam is currently completing an online Master’s degree in Wine Business and Wine Management through the University of Barcelona, conducted in Spanish, with completion expected in December 2026.
In Adam’s own words: “Following my graduation in December, I accepted a position as Winemaker and Vineyard Manager at Firebrick Vineyards, a small, family-run startup. What drew me most to this opportunity was the combination of hands-on work, entrepreneurship, and a strong focus on community engagement.
I am truly grateful for having attended the best school in the world because if it wasn’t for the values and ethics instilled in me by Boys High, I would never have gotten to where I am today. Even though I am far away it fills my heart with pride and joy to see the 125 year celebrations for our school on the hill!”
