SPECIAL EDITION : SUMMER SPORTS DAY 2024
SUMMER SPORTS DAY
Every year the School hosts an Old Boys vs the School Summer Sports Day. It is traditionally held on the first Saturday after schools have opened for the New Year and the 2024 event will be on Saturday, 20 January 2024 with registration from 07:45 at the Old Boys’ gazebo, Sommerville Pavilion. Please be reminded that no alcohol may be brought into the school or consumed on school premises.
SPORTING EVENT TIMES:
BASKETBALL
There will be four games against the Old Boys’ teams on Saturday. The games start at 08:00 and the 1st team will play the main game at 11:00 on court one.
CLIMBING
Climbing will commence at 08:30, please meet at the gym.
CRICKET
There will be 10 games against the Old Boys, the matches will be played on the Schools’ fields and at the Old Boys’ Club. The matches start at either 09:00 or 13:30. PBHS 1st XI play against Old Boys 1st XI on Hofmeyr Oval at 09:00 on Saturday.
CROSS COUNTRY
The 4.5km cross country race will start at the tennis courts (bottom of Suicide hill) at 09:00. Old Boys are encouraged to wear their club kit if applicable.
FENCING
The School team will be holding an exhibition with the Old Boys on Saturday. The venue will be the Atrium area at the Library, starting at 08:30
FOOTBALL
Soccer will be played on the Dory Near Field. All games will be two halves of 20 minutes each with a five-minute halftime. The 1st team match will be 25 minute halves. Starting times:

08:20 PBHS U16 vs Old Boys 3rd XI
09:10 PBHS 2nd XI vs Old Boys 2nd XI
10:05 PBHS 1st XI vs Old Boys 1st XI
SQUASH
Squash took place at the squash courts at 18:00 on Thursday evening, 18 January 2024 (instead of on Saturday due to the Northern Schools tournament on Saturday).
TENNIS
Tennis is now fully booked with singles 1st team match starting at 08:30 followed by a doubles match.
TABLE TENNIS
Table tennis games will take place in the gym from 09:00 to 11:00.
WATER POLO
There will be 11 games against the Old Boys teams on Saturday and five internal matches. The first games start at 08:00 and the PBHS 1st team will play two games, the first one at 08:00 against the “young” Old Boys (2021-2023) and the 2nd game at 13:00 against the “senior” Old Boys (Mixed Old Boys team). Both these games will be played in the Water Polo Pool.
CULTURAL EVENT TIMES:
CHESS
Chess will take place at the dining hall from 10:30.
DEBATING
Debating will take place at the Pollock Campus from 09:00.
FANTASY WAR GAMES
Fantasy War Games will take place at the dining hall from 08:00.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography will take place from 11:00 to 13:00 at Loch Armstrong.
SKETCHING
Sketching will take place from 11:00 to 13:00, please meet at the Sommerville Pavilion.
REGISTRATION
Registration for Old Boys will take place at the Sommerville Cricket Pavilion at the following times: 07:45 to 09:00 and 12:00 to 13:00. Regalia will also be available.
REFRESHMENTS
The PTA will be running two tuck shops, one near the basketball courts and one near the water polo pool.
THE PBHS CLASS OF 2023 ART EXHIBITION
The staff and pupils of Pretoria Boys High School invite you to attend the PBHS Class of 2023 Art Exhibition opening in the Abernethy Hall at 15:00.
PBHS OLD BOYS’ CLUB, LYNNWOOD
The Old Boys’ Club in Queens Crescent, Lynnwood will be open and offering food and drink specials as well as live entertainment. Please drop in after your match or after viewing the art exhibition in Abernethy Hall.
