Pearce Rood died of a heart attack in London on 16 January. He was in the 1949 matric year at PBHS and obtained a BA/LLB at Rhodes in 1954. In 1960 he emigrated to the UK, where he joined the international London law firm Baker and McKenzie, after completing the British law requirements. He retained his interest in South African affairs and especially his old school and university and in 1991 established a trust to provide scholarships and prizes for law students at Rhodes.
When he was at school Pearce was known as ‘Daisy’ I think because the song ‘my old man’s a dustman’ refers to hobnail boots as ‘Daisy roots’!
