CJ’s tuition started much like all of our own, tail between our legs and utterly in awe. He was lucky enough to get picked by the sorting hat to represent the house of Sunnyside.
As far as gentle giants go, CJ was in a class of his own. Soft spoken with a distinctive laugh, he epitomised a true representation of the red, white and green.
Arguably, CJ’s most prolific memory was forged on the rugby field. CJ played his heart out from the very beginning of the game and so when the end of the game was in sight, and CJ was worse for wear, he had a tendency for stepping, not over, but onto players from the opposing teams. Many a time, it would be the Afrikaans boys from across the street that bore the weight of the “black walls” godfather.
On behalf of the class of 2007,
May your heart of gold forever rest upon our fields of green
