Rally passed away peacefully in Port Elizabeth. He spent most of his life in Pretoria where he attended Sunnyside Primary School and went on to matriculate from PBHS in 1950. After high school he worked on the railways for 41 years.

Rally was a keen sportsman and represented Northern Transvaal ten times in water polo and four times in hockey. He played soccer for Berea Park and then played and coached for Koedoe Park. He finished 11 Comrades Marathons and went on to represent South Africa at the Biathlon.

He was married to Peggy for 53 years, who along with their three children (Dalynne, Karene and Lawrence), survive him.
